Twenty years in medicine. The last seven spent on one triangle: obesity, diabetes, and the biology of ageing.

Dr. Sandeep Gupta is a Consultant Physician and Obesity Specialist, and the founder of Welltopia’s Lifestyle Disease Unit in Noida. He has practised medicine for more than twenty years, working specifically in obesity medicine since 2019, and has treated over 5,000 patients through Welltopia’s Anti-Obesity Program, which includes diabetes management.
Before offering the protocol to a single patient, he tested it on himself, losing 20 kg over 165 days, from 84 kg to 64 kg. He also pushed well beyond it, walking two and a half hours a day and logging every meal. Patients follow the same core principles at a pace that fits an ordinary working life. Six years later, his weight remains below 65 kg, a net regain of just 0.8 kg.
He holds an MBBS from S.N. Medical College, Agra, and an MBA from Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne. He also practises as a Consultant Physician and Obesity Specialist at Panacea Hospital, Rishikesh.
His forthcoming book, Reversing Obesity: It’s Not About Losing Weight — It’s About Gaining Health™, argues that standard weight-loss advice fails most patients because it treats obesity as a willpower problem rather than the endocrine and metabolic condition it actually is, and that BMI cutoffs calibrated on Western populations miss a substantial share of Indian patients specifically.
He has challenged the common assumption that rapid loss, such as 10 kg or more in a month, is necessary or beneficial. His stated position: no one should try to lose more than 2–3% of body weight in a month. Even at 100 kg, that means about 2 kg a month is the right pace, not a disappointing one. Sustained consistently, it adds up to over 20 kg in a year, enough to meaningfully change a 100 kg person’s health.
The start of a clinical career that would run over twenty years before narrowing to obesity medicine.
University of Melbourne — study of healthcare from the system side, alongside ongoing clinical practice.
Practice refocused specifically on obesity and the biology of ageing.
Through the Anti-Obesity Program, across both the Noida and Rishikesh practices.
A second clinical base, alongside the Welltopia practice in Noida.
Obesity treated as a metabolic and hormonal condition, not a matter of willpower, using the Anti-Obesity Program’s assessment-led approach.
Longevity medicine applied clinically — sleep, muscle, metabolic health and hormonal balance managed together through the Reverse Ageing Program.
Type 2 diabetes treated alongside obesity, not as a separate condition, since the two rarely occur apart in Dr. Gupta’s patients.
Dr. Gupta works alongside a small clinical team at Welltopia, including Dr. Sanjeev Lavaniya (MBBS, MD, Pulmonary Medicine) and Dr. Namita Nadar (PhD, Diet and Nutrition), who contribute to patient care across the Lifestyle Disease Unit.
